Pune, January 2017 :JSW-Times of India Earth Care Award is an initiative which highlights locally evolved eco friendly practices in the production and consumption across multiple sectors with special reference to climate changes. The ECA has now completed its 7th edition of its successful journey that started in 2008. TERRE is an outreach partner for the award and CEE is the knowledge partner for this award.
The Jury members for the award included Mr. Kartikeya S. Sarabhai, Mr. Rajendra Shende, Mrs. Aneeta Benninger, Mr. Rajat Gupta, Mr. Chandrabhushan, Dr. Suhas Wani and Dr. R.A. Mashelkar as Jury Chair Person.
Applications, selections and the final nominations were in alignment with the ‘Smart City’ theme. This year for Urban category the award was achieved by Panjim Municipal Corporation as they achieved the status of no landfill san-bins through encouraging higher level of segregation, recovery and recycling. In Industry category Cochin International Airport Limited was awarded for taking a major step towards greener and cleaner energy by developing the world’s first airport built under Public Private Partnership model in aviation history to be run completely on solar energy. Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS) team received the award from Community category for successfully demonstrating livelihood based climate change adaptation model. Saguna Rice Technology won the award from Innovative category for potential to revolutionaries’ paddy cultivation not only in India but in the World. Also Earth care awards 2016 commended the efforts and work of Practical Action Team for innovating Sandbar cropping model in Bangladesh. All the winners were granted the awards on 25th November 2016.
