On the occasion of World Biodiversity Day, Maharashtra Forest Department Pune organised a workshop for all the NGOs from Pune working in the field of environment, which was conducted to convey the biodiversity conservation efforts taken by the organisation as well to discuss the World Environment Day plans of Maharashtra Forest Department. TERRE has attended the workshop to provide its inputs for the same.
The workshop started with a discussion on cleaning Mula – Mutha River. India is the host country for World Environment Day, 2018 having the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. Cleaning the sea shores as well as river banks and making them Plastic-free has been set as a goal by Central Government.
Mula-Mutha River in Pune is much polluted and the entire bank is dumped with plastics and garbage. The project of cleaning this river is assigned to Pune, Sangali and Ratngiri districts from Maharashtra. The same was discussed during the workshop. Mr. Dinesh kumar Tyagi- Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest moderated the workshop. Later, Mr. Alok Govind Sheodefrom Joy at Fingertips gave a presentation on insects.
