TERRE launched the first solar school under the Project called 'Bhaskar'
Rahimatpur, 30 June 2013:
TERRE Policy Centre in collaboration with Barefoot Power-Bangalore and Girls School in Rahimatpur
(town of population 25000 including surrounding villages) in Satara district of State of Maharashtra
launched the first solar school under the Project called 'Bhaskar'. In Sanskrit,
an ancient Indian language Bhaskar means "Sun".
The project is part of promoting social entrepreneurship in renewable energy among 'Generation Y(oung)'
of India' and empowering women. Under the business model, the solar desk lamps will be charged during
the day at the charging station for nominal fees. Students will bring the desk lamps in the morning
and take back at the end of the school. Providing uninterrupted light for the focused and unbroken
