Pune, July 2016 : TERRE Policy Centre on Van Mahotsav or Forest Day, 1st July 2016 planted saplings at Urban Forestry, Warje Malwadi, Pune. The State Government executed the planting of two crore trees in the state, including 9.5 lakh saplings in Pune district. We are proud to be a part of this massive tree plantation activity.
Almost 1500 volunteers from various Organisations, Schools, Colleges and NGO’s actively volunteered the state’s tree plantation drive. This year the Government of Maharashtra has undertaken one of the biggest tree plantation drives. Under this scheme, the state has envisaged to plant about 2 crore trees and we are proud to be a part of it.
TERRE aims at the integration of environmental conservation.
Dr. Vineeta Apte, Director, TERRE Policy Centre was also present at the drive. The sapling plantation took place in the presence of dignitaries like Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, Film Actor Mr. Jacky Shroff, Marathi Singer and Music Composer Mr. Salil Kulkarni, MLA Mrs. Megha Kulkarni and Chief Conservator of Forests Jeet Singh Virk.
Around 2200 saplings planted by the volunteers of various Organisations. Representatives of TATA Motors and Persistent alongwith their team members were present for tree plantation.
We got very good support from local volunteers, Police Department, Forest Department in organising this event a successful one.
Forest Dept. has done prior arrangement of digging the pits for the plantation purpose. The representatives of TERRE Policy Centre helped them in moving the plants on the specific locations meant for plantation.
Mr. Girish Bapat mentioned in his speech that only tree plantation is not our responsibility, but to nurture the tree till next monsoon and awareness of tree plantation among all the people is very important.
