Ajay Phatak

Ajay is IIT Bombay (Mumbai) Alumni and thought leader in Ecology and Economics. He has more than 25 years of private sector experience in the areas of engineering, modeling & simulation and marketing. His experience in real time monitoring systems for around five years was of key importance, before starting he embarked in setting up first company - Jopasana Software. This company focused on development and supply of supervisory control and data acquisition products and solutions to process and engineering industries. Its flagship product PROXIMA won the prestigious Industrial merit award for product innovation and commercialization.

Ajay has also been instrumental as a co-founder of follow on company - Jopasana Software & systems, which was founded in 1997 and worked as Managing Director of the company. This company focused on building real time software and embedded products for its customers in the international market including India, US, UK and Europe. Jopasana was acquired by Core Objects - a company specializing in working with startup and new product ventures in 2007. He continues to head the Pune center and the real time and embedded systems business for Core Objects. He is also part of the executive management team at Core Objects.

Ajay has taught as a visiting faculty at industry training programs at IIT Bombay and also at the University of Pune. He has served in the capacity of expert on several government committees in the areas of simulation, control and communication.

Ajay is keenly interested in ecological economics and sustainability. Impact of businesses and the current economic policies on the environment and sustainability is his active area of study. He has been the president of IIT Bombay Alumni association’s Pune chapter between 2007 and 2009. He actively interacts with several NGOs working in the area of environment and its social impact. He also interacts actively with the Pune Municipal Corporation on the matters related to environment. He is also part of environment subcommittee of MCCIA.

Ajay is also interested in trekking and photography.

Ajay holds a B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay ( 1984 ) followed by a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Pune and a Post Graduate diploma in Natural Resource Management, Sustainable development and natural restoration.
