Plantation project with Persistent Foundation

‘Urban Forestry’ is one of the flagship projects of TERRE Policy Centre. Developing barren lands into forests and improving the ecosystem from that area is the motive behind this Urban Forestry. TERRE Policy Centre initiated the Urban Forestry Project in the year 2015. At Warje area near Pune, TERRE have already developed such Forestry called ‘Smritivan’. TERRE Policy Centre in association with Persistent Foundations carring out tree plantation activities for last three years. This year Persistent Foundations have planted 4900 trees till date, in Pune and other cities in India.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, TERRE started the plantation activity by planting 150 saplings of 6-8 feet at Yashodhara skill Centre, near Gorewada Lake, Nagpur. Indigenous plants including Ashoka, Arjun, Saptaparni, Neem, Pimpal etc. were planted at the site which will be taken care till their complete growth.

On 8th July, plantation activity taken place at Usgaon, Goa. 150 indigenous plants of height 6-8 feet were planted at the site. Many fruit bearing plants namely Mango, Guava, Jackfruit and indigenous plants namely Sonchafa, Saptaparni, Bamboo and many more were planted.

On 15th July Persistent Foundations team planted 150 trees at Kammgondahalli Lake, Bengaluru, Karnataka. This plantation included indigenous species like Vad, Pimpal, Bamboo Saptaparni, Sonchafa, Neem etc. were planted by Persistent team.

Also, at Hingane, a site nearby Pune city, the plantation activity was being conducted throughout the week, i.e. from 3rd July to 8th July. Persistent Foundations have planted 600 trees at Hingane Hill area near Pune. Hon. Mrs. Mukta Tilak, Mayor, Pune city also contributed her efforts at the plantation site. At Hingane site, Persistent Foundations plates indigenous plants like Bamboo, Saptaparni, Vad, Pimpal, Golden Bamboo, Ashok etc.

From 26th July to 12th August, the plantation activity was conducted at Rani Lakshmibai Sainik School, Pirangut, Pune. We planted 3700 trees under the premises of the school. Students from Rani Lakshmibai School, Pirangut and volunteers from Persistent Foundations together contributed their efforts for plantation. Together they planted various indigenous species namely Vad, Pimpal, Ashok, Neem, Sagvan, Gulmohar, Saptaparni, Almond etc.

Persistent Foundations along with TERRE Policy Centre have planted 4750 plants till today.
