TERRE Policy Centre celebrated the Ozone day, a day prior with the girls from Rani Lakshmibai Sainik School, Pirangut, Pune. This year is the 30th Anniversary of Montreal Protocol. TERRE President Dr. Vinitaa Apte was the chief guest and speaker for the programme.
Mrs. Pooja Jog, Principal and Mr. Anant Kulkarni, Vice principal of the school also shared the stage with Dr. Apte. Mrs. Pramila Male introduced the contributory work done by Dr. Apte in the environmental field.
TERRE have performed numerous environmental activities and projects at and with the Sainik School. The programme inaugurated with the screening of TERRE anthem ‘Vasundhara geet’ which was very much appreciated by all the students and teachers. Also it delivered environmental messages to all the young minds.
Later, Dr. Vinitaa Apte had an interaction with the students.
She explained what the ozone layer and further explained the importance of it. “The soldiers protect the country from the enemy; likewise, ozone layer protects the earth from the UV rays of Sun.
It is our responsibility to protect it” said Dr. Apte and delivered the greetings to all the students. Also, all the students took environmental oath with Dr. Apte as,” I am committed to protect the biodiversity. Along with protecting our nation, it is my duty to protect mother earth too!” The programme concluded on the note to save and conserve environment.
