A stakeholders workshop on building a safe and sustainable ocean economy concluded successfully in Kolkata, bringing together key experts, government representatives, and industry professionals for a day of insightful discussions and collaboration.
Held at The Lalit Great Eastern Kolkata, the workshop—titled “Stepping Stone Towards a Safe and Sustainable Ocean Economy”—focused on advancing India’s maritime sector in alignment with sustainability goals. The sessions revolved around themes such as Maritime India @ Net Zero and Blue Finance & Investment, highlighting the urgent need for climate-resilient maritime practices.
Organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Earth Sciences in collaboration with Indian Maritime University and partner institutions, the event facilitated dialogue on innovative financing, policy frameworks, and technological interventions for reducing emissions in maritime operations.
Among the notable participants was Dr. Vinita Apte, Founder Director of TERRE Policy Centre, who contributed to discussions on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the role of policy advocacy in accelerating India’s transition to a low-carbon ocean economy.
Participants actively engaged in panel discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions, identifying actionable strategies to accelerate India’s transition toward a sustainable and resilient maritime ecosystem. The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration and drive forward impactful initiatives supporting India’s net-zero ambitions.
