Mahatma Gandhi and Steve Jobs

The monsoon in India is receding but hesitatingly. The first week of October also saw thunder- showers that on 2nd October became violent. Those showers forgot that 2nd October, birth day of Mahatma Gandhi, is also declared by the UN General Assembly as ‘ International Day of non-violence!

Albert Einstein said about Mahatma Gandhi, "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth." I wonder had genius Einstein been alive today if he would have said the same about Steve Jobs!

After his resignation as Apple's CEO, Jobs was characterized as the Thomas Edison and Henry Ford of his time. In his The Daily Show eulogy, Jon Stewart said that unlike others of Jobs's ilk, such as Thomas Edison or Henry Ford, Jobs died young. He felt that we had, in a sense, "wrung everything out of" these other men, but his feeling on Jobs was that "we're not done with you yet." I stringly feel that we also have not done with Mahatma Gandhi yet. I was reading the article: CLICK HERE and concluded that we have not even started wringing Gandhi’s vision and views with enough mind-force. I heard the loud thunder in the south sky.

On 5th October I was reading a letter written by Tim Cook , present CEO of Apple on Apple’s web site and then read the article: CLICK HERE

I intensely recalled the day a year back. 5th October of 2011. The stories appeared all over the media that Steve Jobs died peacefully. In the very last moments of his life, he looked at his sister Patty, then for a long time at his children, then at his life's partner, Laurene, and then over their shoulders past them"; his last words, were: "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.”

Was Steve Paul Jobs recalling Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi when he said those last words? Outside it was raining stair rods and waterfalls.

Why not UN General assembly passes the resolution that 5th October be the International Day of Creativity? In creativity lies the possible solutions to today’s crisis of climate change and approaches to sustainable development. Creativity inspires us to ‘Think different’, a corporate slogan of Apple.
